Workshop on Risk Management for Nigeria Customs

 From 17 to 19 December 2019, the Workshop on Risk Management for Nigeria Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 Aiming to the modernization of Nigeria Customs, the three participants understood the method and organizational structure of risk management and information analysis in Japan Customs through the discussion and site visit at CTI and Tokyo Customs

WCO Regional Workshop on AEO

 The Customs Training Institute (the World Customs Organization Regional Training Center Japan) held the WCO regional Workshop on AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) from 16 to 20 December 2019, which 25 Customs officials representing 21 member administrations took part in as participants and four officials from the ROCB (Regional Office for Capacity Building), Malaysia and Japan as facilitators.
 In this Workshop, participants shared the situations such as challenges on AEO and MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement) implementation of respective administrations and they discussed the way forward. The Workshop also provided the opportunity of site visit including mock validation so that the participants could observe recognized AEO’s business operations and the Customs-Business partnership in Japan.
 Japan Customs has been contributing to these WCO Workshops from various aspects; this is the CTI’s 36th Workshop since its first one held in February 2005.

Workshop on Customs Laboratory for Cambodia Customs

 From 25 to 29 November 2019, the workshop on Customs Laboratory for Cambodia Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 Heading towards compilation of the action plan including refinement the analysis methods and introduction of the equipment and facility, the participants had discussion and site visit at Central Customs Laboratory and Nagoya Customs.

Workshop on Risk Management and Enforcement for the Philippines Customs

 From 18 to 22 November 2019, the workshop on Risk Management and Enforcement for the Philippines Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 To have better knowledge on implementation of risk management and enforcement in Japan including effective utilization of non-intrusive inspection devices, the participants had discussion and site visit at CTI, Customs and Tariff Bureau of the Ministry of Finance and Yokohama Customs.

Workshop on Customs Clearance Management for Lao PDR Customs

 From 18 to 22 November 2019, the workshop on Customs Clearance Management for Lao PDR Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 In the area of Customs clearance procedure and risk management, the participants had discussion and site visit at Customs and Tariff Bureau of the Ministry of Finance and Osaka Customs with an aim to implement appropriately in accordance with international agreements and standards in Lao PDR Customs.

The 79th WCO Fellowship Programme

 From 21 October to 1 November 2019, under the WCO 79th Fellowship Programme, the Japan Customs welcomed four participants from Botswana, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Timor-Leste.
 During the study trip in Japan, aiming to lead the reform and modernization of their home Customs administration, the fellows deepened their understanding of the international Customs standards through the discussion and observation of Japan Customs’ operation at CTI, Central Customs Laboratory, Moji Customs, Yokohama Customs and Customs and Tariff Bureau of the Ministry of Finance.

Workshop on Risk Management and Enforcement for Indonesia Customs

 From 28 October to 1 November 2019, the workshop on Risk Management and Enforcement for Indonesia Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 Aiming to develop Indonesia Customs’ capacity of enforcement and enhance the officers’ operational practices, the participants had discussion and site visit at Tokyo Customs, Central Customs Laboratory, and Hakodate Customs.

18 October 2019
Meeting with the delegates from China Customs for human resources

 On 18 October 2019, delegates from the General Administration of Customs, People’s Republic of China (GACC) for human resources visited the CTI and discussed with Mr. Kagemitsu IKEDA, Managing Director of CTI.
 During this visit, both sides were briefed on the training structures and exchanged the views on the training management. At the end of the discussion, the delegates expressed to continue to work closely with Japan Customs in both the context of the human resource development. The delegates also observed CTI and were impressed with these facilities.

Workshop on Post Clearance Audit /Customs Valuation for Myanmar Customs

 From 7 to 11 October 2019, the workshop on PCA (Post Clearance Audit) and Customs Valuation for Myanmar Customs was held under the activities of customs technical cooperation.
 In order to enhance Myanmar Customs’ knowledge for PCA and Customs Valuation, the participants had discussion and site visit at the CTI and Yokohama Customs.

CTI attended the 17th Meeting of Heads of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Training Center

 From 25 to 26 September 2019, CTI attended the 17th Meeting of Heads of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Training Center at the Customs Border Control Training Institute (CBCTI) in Cheonan, Korea.
 The heads of the six RTCs in the region (Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and Malaysia), representatives from the WCO Secretariat, Asia/Pacific Vice-Chair Office and Asia/Pacific Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB A/P) participated in the meeting. The delegates exchanged views on how to enhance the implementation of WCO capacity building activities and each RTC presented how to improve the quality of workshops in the A/P region. On the second day of the meeting, the CBCTI kingly arranged site visit tours to the Incheon Express Cargo Clearance Centre, K9 Training Centre, etc.
