Illicit trade such as commercial fraud hinders the proper progress of a good economy. The smuggling of firearms and illicit drugs are menaces to the safety and welfare of the nation.
Customs actively carries out various controlling measures around the clock at seaports and airports to protect society and to maintain economic order in Japan.

Anti-Smuggling Operations

Customs maintains close contact with the National Police Agency, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry （METI） and other related authorities, exchanging information. Customs cargo inspections are carried out in close communication with these agencies in order to interdict smuggling of explosives and illegal export of articles related to WMD.
