4052 Outline of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)(FAQ)
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) was signed by 11 countries in March 2018 and entered into force in December of the same year for six countries—Mexico, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia. Subsequently, by July 2023, it entered into force for all remaining original signatories, namely Viet Nam, Peru, Malaysia, Chile, and Brunei.
The accession process of the United Kingdom to the CPTPP commenced in June 2021. The Protocol on the Accession of the United Kingdom was signed in July 2023 and entered into force in December 2024.
The commencement of accession processes to the CPTPP was decided for Costa Rica in November 2024 and for Uruguay in November 2025.

The CPTPP provides for tariff reduction or elimination in Annex 2-D (Tariff Schedule).
The Agreement provides for tariff reduction or elimination.
