4024 Overview of the Elimination or Reduction in Tariffs under the AJCEP Agreement

Based on the AJCEP, the tariff is scheduled to be eliminated for roughly 92% of the value of commerce between Japan and ASEAN member nations (approx. 91% of export from Japan and approx. 93% of import from the ASEAN region) within 10 years from when the agreement is put into force.

I. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries

  1. Japan's key concessions

    • (a)  Durian ⇒ Immediate tariff elimination

    • (b)  Prawn and processed prawn products ⇒ Immediate tariff elimination

    • (c)  Salted eggplants ⇒ Tariff elimination in 10 years

    • (d)  Processed curry products ⇒ Tariff elimination in seven years

    • (e)  Jellyfish ⇒ Tariff elimination in seven years

    • (f)  Processed chicken products ⇒ Tariff elimination

  2. ASEAN’S key concessions

    • Apples, peaches, grapes, pears and Chinese yam ⇒ Tariff elimination

II. Industrial products

  1. Japan's key concessions

    • Tariff elimination for virtually all mining and industrial products within 10 years
  2. ASEAN’S key concessions

    • (a)  Flat TV ⇒ Tariff elimination

    • (b)  Flat TV modules ⇒ Tariff elimination

    • (c)  Parts of the motor vehicles(e.g. Breaks) ⇒ Tariff elimination in most ASEAN nations
