4015 Overview of the Elimination or Reduction in Tariffs under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement
Based on the EPA between Japan and Thailand, the tariff is scheduled to be eliminated for roughly 95% of the value of commerce between the two countries (approx. 97% of export from Japan and approx. 92% of import from Thailand) within 10 years from enforcement of the Agreement.
I. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries
Japan's key concessions
(a) Prawn & processed prawn products⇒ Immediate tariff elimination
(b) Mango, mangosteen, durian ⇒ Immediate tariff elimination
(c) Chicken (excluding thigh meat with bone) & processed chicken products⇒ Reduction to 8.5% and 3%, respectively, in five years
(d) Tunas, in airtight containers⇒ Tariff elimination in five years
Thailand's key concessions
・Apples, pears and Chinese yam ⇒ Immediate tariff elimination
II. Industrial products
Japan's key concessions
・Tariff elimination for virtually all mining and industrial products within 10 yearsThailand's key concessions
(a) Steel ⇒Tariff elimination for all steel products within 10 years
(b) Automotive parts (for production) ⇒ Tariff elimination after seven years as a general rule for engines, etc., and after five years as a general rule for others
(c) Motor vehicles (finished) (more than 3,000cc) ⇒ Tariff reduction in phases to 60% in three years
(d) Motor vehicles (finished) (under 3,000cc) ⇒ Talks to be held once again in the sixth year
