7304 Export/Import Procedures of Accompanied Hunting Guns (FAQ)

The export of hunting guns is restricted and therefore, when you export one, Export Permit issued by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry is required.
When you bring a hunting gun abroad with you, you must declare it to Customs at your departure. In this case, you must present the hunting gun, bullets, and your passport along with the Export Permit.
When you bring back the hunting gun and bullets, you are required to submit a "Declaration of Accompanied Personal Effects and Unaccompanied Articles" and declare it to Customs. Hunting guns can be cleared as traveling goods just by presenting the Export Permit which was granted at the time of your departure from Japan to Customs and being confirmed it. However, bullets require an Import Permit issued by the metropolitan or prefectural governor.
When you purchase a hunting gun and bullets in a foreign country and bring them back, you need a Permit for Possession issued by the metropolitan or prefectural Public Safety Commission for the hunting gun and an Import Permit issued by the metropolitan or prefectural governor for the bullets.
