7202 Procedures for Declaring Accompanied or Unaccompanied Articles to Customs (FAQ)

The following procedures are to be followed for declaring to Customs the accompanied or unaccompanied articles of a passenger departing the country that are to be treated as “traveler’s baggage”.

(1) Accompanied articles may be declared orally.

(2) When declaring unaccompanied articles, two copies of “Export/Import Declaration for Consigned Articles” must be submitted to customs. One copy will be issued as a permit after the export license is granted.

(3) When you declare for consigned articles or you need export permit for accompanied or unaccompanied articles, two copies of “Export/Import Declaration for Consigned Articles” must be submitted to customs. One copy will be issued as a permit after the export license is granted.

In the case that you take cargo other than the above out of Japan, you may be required to take the same export procedures as those for the general cargo. Therefore, you must submit a declaration to customs and obtain permission before leaving the country.

(Article 67 of Customs Law, Article 58 of the Cabinet Order for Enforcement of the Customs Law, and General Notification 67-1-1, 67-1-2, 67-2-7, 67-2-8 of Customs Law)
