When is the deadline for import procedures?
Q I received a “Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad.”
When is the deadline for import procedures?
A Since the Universal Postal Convention stipulates a storage period, in principle, if import procedures are not completed within one month from the day following the day on which the “Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad” is issued, the package will be returned to the sender.
However, if you wish to extend the storage period to complete time-consuming procedures required by the Food Sanitation Act, the Act on Securing Quality, Efficacy and Safety of Products including Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, or other laws and regulations, please contact Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs for a one-month extension (up to a total of two months).
