I received a “Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad”

I received a simple registered mail titled “Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad”. What should I do?


Please check the column marked “連絡事項欄(RENRAKUJIKOURAN)” on the right side of the “Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad” you received, for details on inquiries from Customs. (The link at the bottom of this page will take you to the details of the inquiry.)
Responses to inquiries and submission of required documents are accepted by phone, FAX, or mail.

Please note the following points when sending us the required documents.


≫By FAX:
  • Call Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs in advance.
  • Fill out the following information on your Fax form or in the margin of the document “通知番号(Number of the notice)“, the name and phone number of the recipient and the name of the customs officer in charge.
≫By Mail:
  • Enclose a note with the “通知番号(Number of the notice),“ the name and phone number of the recipient.

Please note that if the number of the notice or other necessary information is not included, the mail will not be able to be identified and we will not be able to proceed with customs clearance procedures.
