Parcels were assessed for duties and taxes based on a low price written on Customs Declaration Form

My parcels that were assessed for duties and taxes based on a significantly lower price incorrectly written on the attached Customs Declaration Form. Will this be an issue?

Please notify Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs that processed the taxation as soon as possible, as this must be recalculated with the correct customs value.
(Contact information is provided in the upper right corner of the “Notice of Assessment of Duties and Taxes Postal Matters”.)

≫Before receiving your mail (before paying taxes)

Please inform the mail carrier that you would like to inquire with Customs about the tax details, put a hold on your mail pickup, and contact us with the invoice or other price documents that show the correct price.
If there appears to be an error in the taxation process, “Notice of Assessment of Duties and Taxes Postal Matters” and payment slips for the parcels should be returned to the international post office for re-examination by Customs.
If the taxation needs to be corrected as a result, the “Notice of Assessment of Duties and Taxes Postal Matters” and payment slips will be corrected to reflect the correct customs value and resent from the international post office. Upon delivery, please pay the duties and taxes and pick up your mail.
Please note that it may take a few more days to receive your mail due to the mail being returned and re-examined.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

≫Mail received (tax paid and imported)/ After receiving your mail (after paying taxes)

Please contact the customs office with the following documents prepared.
  • Invoice or Price document showing the correct price
  • “Notice of Assessment of Duties and Taxes Postal Matters” and “certificate of payment (receipt)” that you received upon delivery
  • Customs Declaration Form and invoices with incorrect amounts that were attached to your parcel when first delivered

Please note that if the post clearance audit reveals that the customs value was lower and that tax payments were underpaid, not only will deficient tax be assessed, but additional taxes may also be imposed.
