25. Firearms, Swords and other weapons

Among the mail that has arrived, there are firearms or swords that appear to fall under the Firearms and Swords Possession Control Law.

When importing firearms or swords, the original Permission to Possess Firearms or Permission to Possess Swords issued by the Prefectural Public Safety Commission must be verified at Customs.

Please come to Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs and present it, or send it by mail. When sending by mail, please be sure to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

If there are circumstances that prevent you from coming to the office or sending the documents, please contact Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs.

In addition, firearms or swords may not be imported without the approval of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, in accordance with the provisions of the Import Trade Control Order.

If you already have approval, please bring or mail the original to the customs office.

When sending by mail, please be sure to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

If you do not have approval, please check whether or not approval is required by using the Import Approval Required Inquiry Form (Weapons) on the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry website.

Those who have received a response that procedures are required should complete the necessary procedures at the Trade Control Policy Division, Trade Control Department, Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and submit the issued Import Approval (original) to the customs office in person or by mail.

When sending by mail, please be sure to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

If you have received a response that no procedures are required, please inform Customs of the reason why no procedure are required and the name of the person in charge of the Trade Control Policy Division, Trade Control Department, Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau.

If you do not have a Permission to Possess Firearms/Swords or you are unable to obtain an Import Approval, please contact Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs for information on the subsequent procedures.
