17. The Law on Veterinary Pharmaceuticals

Among the mail that has arrived, there is an item that appears to fall under the Law on Securing Quality, Efficacy and Safety of Products including Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices.
Customs need to confirm the import license or import confirmation (hereinafter referred to as “Yunyu Kakunin-Sho”) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) each time such items are imported.

Please confirm with the Animal Products Safety Division of the Food Safety and Consumer Affairs Bureau, MAFF, whether or not procedures are required, after ascertaining the product’s name, quantity, etc.

≫Those who have received a response the Yunyu Kakaunin-Sho procedure are required to complete the necessary procedures at the Animal Products Safety Division and submit the issued Yunyu Kakunin-Sho (Application) to Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs.


≫If the quantity is within the scope of quantities allowed for the purpose of self-medication by a veterinarian, a copy of the veterinarian’s license should be submitted to Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs.

≫If you have received a response that no procedures are required, please contact Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs and convey the reason why no procedures are required and the name of the officer in charge of the Animal Products Safety Division.


≫If you received a response that you cannot obtain a Yunyu Kakunin-Sho (full or partial importation is not possible), please contact Tokyo Overseas Mail Sub-branch Customs for further information on the procedures to follow.
