The Central Customs Laboratory (CCL) received 4 participants (note) in the WCO (World Customs Organization) 72nd Fellowship Programme, as an international activity under customs technical cooperation. The CCL welcomed them, and explained CCL’s overview and the importance of Customs analysis for further facilitating trade procedure. The CCL also explained activities as the Regional Customs Laboratory (RCL) to support the WCO members in the region to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of Customs Laboratory analysis work with a view to enhancing trade within the region. The CCL provided demonstrations of analytical instruments and inspection equipment in the experiment building.

- 2017 Mar. 6 - Apr. 19 Completion of attachment training for the second group of the WCO/Japan Regional Customs Laboratories Programme 2016/2017
The Central Customs Laboratory (CCL), under the WCO / Japan Regional Customs Laboratories Programme 2016/2017, accepted three Customs chemists from Belarus, Jordan and Vietnam from March 6 to April 19, 2017. During the period, CCL conducted highly concentrated training, aimed at improving specific Customs chemical analyses and learning laboratory management, based on a training plan considering requests from these chemists.

- 2017 Mar. 21 Visit of scholarship students in the WCO Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights Program (SMIPRP) to the CCL
The Central Customs Laboratory (CCL) received 10 scholarship students in the WCO (World Customs Organization) SMIPRP (note), as an international activity under customs technical cooperation. The CCL welcomed them, and explained CCL’s overview and the importance of Customs analysis for further facilitating trade procedure. The CCL also explained the contribution of the CCL toward IPR infringing goods and activities as the Regional Customs Laboratory (RCL) to support the WCO members in the region to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of Customs Laboratory analysis work. The CCL presented demonstrations of analytical instruments and inspection equipment in the experiment building.

The WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Workshop on Capacity Building of Customs Laboratories for the Revenue Package Programme and TradeFacilitation was held in Kashiwa (Central Customs Laboratory), Japan. The 29 senior and mid-level Customs laboratory-related officers from 23countries, 4 representatives from the Russian Federation and a representative from the European Commission together with 2 WCO-relatedofficials participated in the workshop. They shared good practices or current situation on Customs chemical analysis and discussed the regionaland inter-regional cooperation on Customs laboratory work. - 2016 Jun.22 Visit of the members of Tripartite (Japan-China-Korea) Customs Procedures Working Group to the CCL
The ten members (each five from China and Korea) of tripartite (Japan-China-Korea) Customs Procedures Working Group visited the Central Customs Laboratory (CCL). The CCL welcomed them, and explained CCL’s overview and the importance of Customs analysis to support further facilitating trade procedures, followed by showing them important analytical demonstrations to decide tariff classification in the experiment building. All of the members listened attentively to the explanation and asked questions. This showed that they had high interests in the activities of the CCL. Three customs laboratories are intended to further cooperate on customs analysis.

- 2016 Mar. 07-Apr.20 Completion of attachment training for the second group of the WCO/Japan Regional Customs Laboratories Programme 2015/2016
The Central Customs Laboratory (CCL), under the WCO / Japan Regional Customs Laboratories Programme 2015/2016, accepted three Customs chemists from Cambodia, Fiji and Ghana from March 07 to April 20, 2016. During the period, CCL conducted highly concentrated training, aimed at learning the management necessary for the establishment of Customs laboratory and improving specific Customs chemical analyses, based on a training plan considering requests from these chemists. Especially, the chemist from Fiji expressed his thanks as it was very useful to learn how to analyze illicit drug from the perspective of enhancing the enforcement of illicit drug in Fiji.

The Central Customs Laboratory (CCL), as the WCO Regional Customs Laboratory for the Asia/Pacific Region (WCO RCL A/P), dispatched two expert chemists to the WCO National Workshop for the Cambodian Customs which was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from 23 to 27 March 2015. The expert chemists, in collaboration with one senior officer from the WCO, provided a wide range of technical assistance for implementation of Customs laboratory in Cambodia.
