28. Swords and Firearms
The mail received contains swords or firearms.
If these are art swords, etc., it is necessary to apply for registration with the Prefectural Board of Education of the addressee’s domicile in advance of customs clearance.
On the second Tuesday of every month, Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education conducts on-site appraisals and examinations at the Tokyo International Post Office.
Those who wish to apply for registration of art swords, etc., should make an appointment at the following counter.

For contemporary art swords that are not classified as works of art or antiques (more than 100 years old), a Permission to Possess Firearms/Swords issued by the Prefectural Public Safety Commission or an Import Approval issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry may be required.
