ATA CARNET

The postal parcel addressed to you is temporarily being held at Japan Post Co.,Ltd. Tokyo International Branch.  For the Customs Clearance of the item concerned, it is necessary to check whether you have an ATA Carnet for the item concerned.  The ATA Carnet is an international, unified Customs document that provides for the temporary duty free admission of three main categories of goods traded internationally, i.e.

 

-Goods for presentation or use at trade fairs, shows, exhibitions or similar events

 

-Samples of value

 

-Professional equipment

 

Please inform Tokyo Branch Customs Office for Overseas Mail whether you have an ATA Carnet or not.

 

If you are a holder of ATA Carnet:

 

Please bring the ATA Carnet, ‘Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad’, and invoice of the item to Tokyo Branch Customs Office for Overseas Mail with you.

 

If you are not holder of ATA Carnet:

 

If you intend to re-export the item and apply for the reduction, exemption, or refund of duty and taxesJump to Reduction and Exemption for Re-exportation

 

If you will not apply for the reduction, exemption, or refund of duty and taxes at re-exportation, or if you will not re-export the item, please fill in the return part of the post card (the bottom of the arrival notice) with your name, address and telephone number (at which you can answer from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays) and return to Customs and write clearly that you do not have the ATA Carnet, and do not have an intention for procedure of reduction, exemption or refund in the ‘Notice of Customs Clearance Procedure for Postal Matters from Abroad’.
