Research and Development -Survey and Research on Smuggled Goods Detection Technology-

Since smugglers are getting smarter, we advise from a technical perspective on Customs matters such as inspection and investigation for the performance assessment of various equipment, along with methods of practical use, to be helpful in the direction or supervision of Customs and maintenance and expansion of inspection equipment. We are collaborating with private firms to tap into new fields of research, including the development of contraband detection equipment.

Research and Development of Technologies to Detect Firearms and Illicit Drugs

To prevent the smuggling of firearms and illicit drugs at our country's shorelines, the CCL is engaged in research and development efforts covering specific detection technologies and devices. For example, the CCL is now conducting research on a "metal detector" that responds only to iron, which is the material used in firearms, and a "detection radar" that detects drugs hidden inside the hollowed-out cavities in stone or wooden objects.
